Stars at Darley Round

Big Thanks go to Paul Westerdale and his Family for allowing me to Race his Kawasaki ZXR400 at the Stars of Darley Round at Darley Moor.

I had not raced at Darley Moor for 3 years and it was my first time on the borrowed machine.

The first time out on track was a Timed/ Qualifying Practice so it was going to be fun. I qualified 3rd with a qualifying time of 1:03.12, not bad but not good enough.

In the first race I had a bad start and dropped down to 7th, we were mixing it with the steel frame 600's and this made it very difficult, I would pass them on the corners but they would pass me back on the straights and there are a few straights at Darley moor. I evetually finished the race 3rd in class but set the fastest lap time of my class with a 1:01.44.

The 2nd Race 'Formula Darley' we were again mixing it with the Pre 98's and mixed cc machines. I got a good start and went into 3rd place, but soon got took by some of the bigger bikes but I was first in my class.

This was a 15 lap race and it started to rain near the end, hence my lap times started to drop a little but still set a good lap time of 1:00.82, still some way to go off the lap record which I was hoping to take.

At the end of it all I had a Brilliant days racing and caught up with some Good friends and knocked nearly 3 secs off my lap times.

EMRA Rd1 - Another lap record...
So, here we go again...the long awaited new season is finally upon us. And it all started with the usual March pilgrimage to Mallory Park with EMRA. The weather was sunny, but that was slightly misleading as there was a real chill in the air. Winter is still here and conditions were rather testing. Leon was on his new R6 in the Buildbase Trophy. But, to make things interesting, Leon was also out to play with the 400s on his old ZXR machine - which Mike had been busy preparing for him all week back at BMC Racing HQ.

Qualifying went well. The 400s were out with the Formula 600s so it was a bit busy out on track. This, however, didn't stop Leon from putting in some blistering lap times and sticking his ZXR on pole. In the Buildbase Mallory Trophy Leon was again putting in some quality lap times and found himself ninth on the grid with a lap time of 55.781. In fact, ten riders were all in the 55's so that tells you how close the grid positions were.

And so to the racing, starting with the Formula 400s. There were rumours that we were running with the 600s. This wasn't the case, however, there did seem to be two separate classes though...the 'Leon Jeacock Class' and the 'Rest of Us Class'. This isn't mean't to show a lack of respect to the other riders...indeed the grid contained many quality riders. But it's more to show how Leon really dominated both races from start to finish.
Race one saw Leon leap straight out of the blocks and leave the rest of the chasing pack in his wake. A series of incredibly quick laps followed and saw Leon take a very comfortable victory, and lapped half of the field in the process.
Race two was very similar to race one, in fact. Leon again got an amazing start and was already way ahead by the end of lap one. He then, yet again, put in some blistering lap times to take the win by an incredible twenty three seconds. And in the process smashing his own lap record by about half a second with a time of 56.339!
Well done Leon, I don't know how you do it sometimes...and on a bike that was in bits only a week earlier! So big congrats to Mike too for preparing the ZXR so well.

The Buildbase Trophy was a highly competitive event indeed. Mark Littler was there, as usual, along with the likes of Luke Stapleford, James Hillier and Lee Jackson who were all there to fight their cause. But this time it was to be a fifteen lap single race event, rather than the short sprint qualifier and ten lap main event like last season. Leon got away well but soon found himself just outside the top ten for a while, but he found his rhythm and started picking off the riders ahead. He managed to fight his way up to an incredible eighth place at the finish, and only a fraction of a second behind Michael Niblett in seventh. And all this on his Superstock 600 R6! In fact, his fastest lap time of 54.523 was the fifth fastest of the field...heroic stuff indeed!So there you have it, a highly enjoyable, very successful start to the new season. We all cannot wait now to get down to Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks to do it all again...

Personality of the Year!!

Last night was a good night. A very good night indeed! Leon won the 'Senior Sports Personality of the Year Award' at the 'Nuneaton & Bedworth Sports Forum Awards'. Not only is this an incredible achievement for Leon, but also one for motorcycle sport, as he's the first motorcyclist to receive an award from the Forum. A massive achievement indeed! The awards date back to 1975, so it's great to see Leon contributing his piece of history. Well done Leon...

Last weekend we were all out in force at the end of year EMRA dinner, dance and trophy giving ceremony. And this year we were again privileged to have Cal Crutchlow, World Supersport Champion, and John Reynolds, three times British Superbike Champion, handing out the prizes. It was a fantastic evening for the gang. Not only did we seem to have the largest turn out, we also seemed to pick up more awards than any other team. Leon picked up a whopping Nine trophies! EMRA Formula 400 'NEW LAP RECORD'

And what a Ride it turned out to be !!!!
After clinching all 3, 600 cc Championships earlier on in the day, Leon decided to ride the spare BMC Racing Honda RVF 400 in Race 2, after Elliot Stevens had a Guest ride on the machine in Race 1 and managed his fastest lap time of 1:00.5, well Done!

However, Leon hadn't put in a qualifying time so would have to start the race from the back of the grid (Last!). So it was going to be an interesting one! The lights went out and off he flew, as Simon Edmondson said " He came by me that fast the breeze from him nearly hit my Kill switch off", By the time he reached 'Edwinas' Leon was already up in to third place. Coming out of 'Edwinas' Leon got the drop on James Simpson and set about Sam Hornsey. And heading in to 'Edwinas' for the second time Leon pulled an awesome out-braking manoeuvre on Sam to take the lead. And that's where he stayed for the rest of the race in 1st Place.
But get this, Leon also obliterated the Formula 400 lap record with a lap time of 56.835!
Incredible riding ! and it just shows how the lightened BMC Racing / LJR Racing products does and will make a difference, along with a Good Rider!!

'THE FINAL'

First up the Buildbase Mallory Trophy and the six lap sprint.
Leon got a blistering start and was second going in to 'Edwinas' for the first time. He then had a fight on his hands and was briefly pushed back fourth, but with some solid lap times in the mid 54's Leon stuck himself up to third to take the final podium slot. Oh, and he also took the fastest lap of the race with a time of 54.427. Simply brilliant.
Race two saw Leon ride with all the confidence of a true champion. He has his usual fantastic start saw him up to second and pushing Philip Green for the lead. And with some incredibly consistent lap times, and another brilliant out-braking manoeuvre in to 'Edwinas', Leon soon took the lead and pulled a gap on the chasing pack, and brought it home to a memorable victory for the main event of the day. And again he was the quickest rider out on track with a lap time of 54.151 seconds. This gave Leon the '3rd' place finish in the Buildbase Championship, just a single point behind Philip Brooks who finished in second place. Pure magic!

In the Superstock 600's Leon just needed a solid points finish to claim the title for the second year running. And he was also leading the Co-Ordit Relay category too, which gives the young winning rider free entry to next years NG series.
In race one, Leon tucked in behind the flying Luke Stapleford in top second place. Luke rode a great race to win but Leon did enough to finish second, way ahead of the rest of the pack, to take both the Superstock 600 and Co-Ordit Relay championships. A fantastic result, and something for Leon to focus on for next year. Race two was a carbon copy of the first, with Leon following Luke home in second place. This time though, Leon recorded his fastest lap of the day (54.147) to stay closer to Luke by the end, and in doing so pulling an immense gap on the chasing pack.
Clinching the Formula 600 championship seemed like a formality for Leon, with his lead being what it was. But that didn't stop him from pushing mightily hard in both races to take a couple of domineering victories.
Race one saw Leon being pushed well by Jody Lees and Sean Moore, but Leon soon took control and finished the race with a two and a half second gap.
Race two, and being the newly crowned champion, we saw Leon sporting a Superman t-shirt over his leathers. He certainly lived up to the name too! Leon lead from start to finish and pulled a similar gap as race one by the end. A masterclass on how to ride Mallory Park.So there you have it, a truely unbelievable days racing for everyone involved. From the grid girls, caterers, and strong family support, to the riders themselves...everyone played their part and should be very proud of this years achievments. I thank, and admire you all!

How did Leon do then?

First up was the 'Buildbase Mallory Trophy'.

Race one, the shorter six lap sprint, saw Leon finish a fantastic sixth position. Not only was he, again, the leading 600cc machine, but his lap time of 55.187 was the third fastest of the race. A great effort in amongst the 1000cc machines. Brilliant!

Race two followed a similar path with Leon finishing a very credible seventh place, and in doing so edged out Lee Statham on his 1000cc Suzuki by just 0.001 seconds! This served to further underline the class and natural ability that Leon obviously has in abundance. Well done Leon, I'm sure you made a few people sit up and take note with that result!

Moving on to the Superstock 600's, and Race one saw Leon in a brief tussle with Dean Brown before taking the lead on lap three. He then lead convincingly from the front to take victory by a gap of 2.246 seconds. And, of course, the fastest lap of the race which was just outside the Superstock lap record!

Race two was a very similar story, only this time Leon took the lead over Richard Wardle on lap four to then go on and take victory and maximum points for the day. And again he had the fastest lap of the race - 55.024 seconds which gets ever closer to that lap record! Leon moves on to 138 points which is some 34 points ahead of Richard Wardle on 104 points, and a monstrous 96 points ahead of Dean Brown in third place on 42 points! Very mpressive stuff indeed!

Finally the Formula 600's.

Well, what a couple of rides these turned out to be.

Race one saw Leon fly off the line to take an early lead. He then put in some very consistent lap times to bring home the R6 to yet another race victory. Leon was also the only rider to break the 55 second barrier which, considering Leon was on the same front tyre all day, is simply exceptional! The gap at the finish was almost 6 seconds - there was no doubt about who was going to win this one!

Race two was probably the best race of the day.

Leon found himself in a scrap with Jody lees who had taken the early initiative. Midway through the race Leon got baulked at the hairpin which allowed Jody to pull out a gap. Leon then stuck his head down and got stuck in. Lap by lap Leon kept closing the gap until on lap nine he was close enough to make a move. And between the 'Hairpin' and the 'Bus Stop' on lap nine Leon made his move and took the lead. He then went on to take the victory by just 0.337 seconds! And he got the fastest lap of the race again. But get this - his lap time of 54.776 seconds would have smashed the Superstock 600 lap record!

Still, it was a truly amazing victory that had the crowd on their feet. And it was Leon's fourth victory of the day which was enough to earn him the 'Rider of the Day' award. A thoroughly justified and superb result. Oh, and his very impressive total race time of 9:18.442 is the best he's ever raced over ten laps...well done Leon!

Leon now has a handsome lead in the Formula 600's too. He now has 142 points, ahead of Jody Lees who has 94 points. An unbelievable lead of 48 points to take in to the final round of the championship. Gary Arden lies a distant third place with just 60 points. Supreme!

Leon Haslam, Leon Camier, Leon Jeacock...all could be seen racing hard at Donington Park last weekend. No you're not seeing things - the World Superbikes were in town, and Thundersport GB had managed to grab a couple of support races, the Aprillia Superteens and the Superstock 600's. So Leon was out on his R6 to learn the track and mix it with the big boys. Having never raced here before, this was the ideal setting in which to get to grips with a new track and work on the set-up of the bike. I was there to join the fun and take in all the weekends racing action.So how was it?

Well, Friday saw Leon struggling with his brakes but still managing to qualify 15th on the grid for race one on the Saturday. A new set of pads were fitted overnight, but the lack of any practice time meant that Leon would have to bed the brakes in on the warm-up lap. The start to race one was hectic! With Leon starting on the right hand side of the grid, the first corner was always going to be tough. And getting over to the racing line in time for the first corner took some confident moves from Leon. Settling in to the mid-pack after 'Redgate' he then looked to work on the riders in front. However, a near race ending collision at the 'Esses' and an excursion across the grass had left Leon well down the pack in 28th position by the end of the first lap. But not one for quitting, Leon quickly got stuck in, and set about salvaging something from the race. And some performance it was too! In the nine laps remaining he managed to claw his way right back up the field to finish 17th in the race and an amazing 12th in class. He also put in a very credible lap time of 1:42:689. Brilliant!

We then had the night to reflect and work on improving the set-up of the bike for race two the following day. And it was later on that evening, while walking round the paddock, that we got some very useful advice indeed. We were all admiring the italian outfit of 'Team Trasimeno' (a world Superstock team) when all of a sudden they turned up and invited us in to have a look. Mike, Leon and Rod then started talking fluent 'bike' with them. The language differences didn't seem to make any difference...they all seemed to understand each other perfectly. They very kindly offered some crucial gearing knowledge too, which was great of them! We can't thank them enough...passing on experience to smaller teams like us is a true credit to the italian way of working. And they certainly know how to breed great riders over there too!

Armed with the extra piece of knowledge, Sunday arrived and the R6 was given it's refinements. Race two wasn't until the end of the day so we had time to relax and soak up the atmosphere and enjoy both Superbike races. And what a treat it was too. Ben Spies was in a league of his own, Biaggi looked slick on his RSV4 Aprillia (until he dropped it at the 'Melbourne Loop' that is!), and the brits put in a fine display - most notably Leon Haslam who finished a fantastic 2nd place in race two. Awesome!

With the main event over, attention turned to Leon's second Superstock 600 race. I decided to watch from the infield grandstand to get a good view of the start. Again it was hectic off the line with Leon getting off the line well. It got a bit of crowded in to 'Redgate' with Leon briefly colliding with another rider before settling in to 13th place. He then got stuck in and set about catching and passing as many riders as he could. And that's what he did, with the new gearing and Leon's ability to learn more from a track with each passing lap, he slowly started picking them off one by one. His lap times kept getting better and better as Leon eventually clawed his way up the field to an amazing 8th place and chasing hard two riders ahead who were having a good battle. The final lap soon came round and 8th place seemed to be where Leon would finish. That was until the two riders ahead (who he was catching) collided and fell at the very last corner. This left Leon to pick up the pieces and finish the race an amazing 6th overall and 5th in class. And he had brought his lap times right down to an incredible 1:40:919. It was the perfect end to an excellent weekend.

Very well done to Leon, yet again proving that he can be very competitive on any track. It's just a matter of learning them all now!

EMRA 'Round 4' 14th June

'Leon makes the Front page of the EMRA Programme'

Well, last weekend we were at Mallory Park for round 4 of the EMRA championships. The sun was out to play all day, and all the fast food vans ran out of water. So the conditions were great and set the scene well for the days racing.But let's start with the programme shall we...Leon was the cover boy this time, and it was designed in pink to compliment the R6 colours. Looks like it's starting to catch on! And Mike made the centre pages too...it was almost like looking through the BMC calendar. The write up from the last round was very complimentary too...here are a couple of quotes:'Leon Jeacock is getting further away from his rivals in the Supersport class, so far that he could score nil next time and still be on top.'

Leon got stuck in to his Qualifying sessions and put in some solid lap times.

In the Superstock's he did enough to put himself third on the grid.

The F600 was a little more challenging but still Leon managed to stick his R6 on row two. And his lap times were good enough for the front row in the 'Buildbase Mallory Trophy'. Top draw stuff!

Leon continued his push in the 'Buildbase Mallory Trophy' with a couple of solid rides.

Race one saw Leon make a demon start and was third at the end of the opening lap. But after a tough fight throughout the race he found himself drop back through the pack to finish an excellent eighth place, and was the leading 600 finisher.

Race two was always going to be tough from the second row, but Leon got away well on the opening lap only to be crowded out at 'Edwinas'. He pushed incredibly hard for the rest of the race and managed another eighth place. This consolidated his lead in the Co-ordit Relay championship, for all the 600cc riders, and now leads by a massive thirty points. Awesome!

Next up, the Superstock 600's.

Race one saw Leon make his trademark blistering start from third place on the grid. By the time they reached 'Edwinas' Leon was in front and had already pulled a gap on the chasing pack. And, well, that was it really! Leon led for the entire race to take a comfortable victory by nearly 3 seconds ahead of Richard Wardle. He made it all look so effortless too!

Race two was a little more exciting though. Again Leon made a quick start, but this time Wardle stayed hot on his heels. They both quickly pulled a big gap from the pack. It was to be a two man battle right to the end. Wardle tried on numerous occasions to outbrake Leon in to 'Edwinas', but Leon was having none of it with some breathtakingly late braking of his own. And this appeared to be how the race might finish, until they started to reach the backmarkers that is! Wardle took the lead a couple of laps from the end with a backmarker playing his part. Again backmarkers held up Leon a lap later round 'Edwinas', giving Wardle chance to pull out an advantage. However, a lap later Wardle found himself held up through the 'Esses' allowing Leon to close right back in. It was then a tense sprint through the final parts of the lap to the chequered flag. And what a finish it was too, with Leon just missing out on the victory by just 0.092 seconds. A terrific spectacle for the crowds, and helped Leon extend his championship lead to 26 points.

And finally we move to the Formula 600 machines.

With Leon starting eighth on the grid you would probably think this could be a huge struggle. But instead we witnessed two absolutely top class rides by Leon.

In Race one he flew off the line and settled in to second position by the time they had reached 'Edwinas'. But Leon, as always, was looking to go one better. And the start of lap two saw Leon take the lead round 'Gerrards'. He then majestically led for the rest of the race, throwing in some consistently quick lap times, to take a sublime victory.

Race two in the F600's was surely the best race of the day. Leon, as expected, got away well. Only this time he was to be very closely followed by Jody Lees. And, an almost exact copy of the earlier Superstock race, we saw Lees try on many occasions to outbrake Leon in to 'Edwinas'. Leon held off every challenge right to the last lap when Lees just managed to sneak past as they tipped in to the left hander. But Leon dug deep, obviously with the earlier race on his mind, and immediately fought back to retake the lead at the hairpin. The final charge through the 'Bus stop' and down the 'Elbow' brought the crowd to their feet as Leon took an amazing victory (his third of the day) by just 0.013 seconds.

It was a joy to watch and the commentator seemed to thoroughly enjoy it too!

Leon also extended his advantage in this championship and now leads by an incredible 42 points. Well done Leon, you rode a blinder!So there you are...with four rounds completed Leon and the BMC Racing team can feel very proud of themselves indeed!

ThundersportGB Oulton Park June 6th

Leon didn't do so well on the R6 at Oulton, the Weather was horrendous and didn't stop raining all day, we had no set-up for the R6 (suspension and gearing) and being a one day event meant we would have no practice time, still Leon managed to qualify in 19th Place with a lap time of 2:12.418.

He came 10th in the race with an amazing lap time of 2:02.867 in such horrendous weather conditions, Leon seems to learn the Tracks very quickly and made quite an impression on everyone.

Leon had a Brilliant Day at Mallory.

First up was the 'Buildbase Mallory Trophy' six lapper.

Starting from the front row Leon seemed to get away well. But the conditions were tricky and Leon soon found himself down amongst the traffic in seventh place. And although his wet suspension settings weren't ideal, he held this position to the end of the race ahead of most of the 1000cc's.

Race two was a ten lap race, and Leon would start on grid number seven. Again it was wet, so it was always going to be tricky, but Leon got away well and was up to fifth by the time they entered Edwinas. He pushed hard for the entire race and had held sixth position for most of the race until a strong challenge from Gary Arden. It was a close finish (just 0.216 secs) and another seventh place finish for Leon.

Superstock 600's

The first race turned out to be a dry race. It was touch and go though and this uncertainty mean't that there wasn't time to change to a dry front tyre. But, as expected, Leon got stuck right in and immediately lead the race. However, the wet front made it difficult to hold off the challenges from the two riders behind him, with Leon soon finding himself in third place where he stayed for the rest of the race. Still, he managed to stay in touch with the guys in front and, in doing so, pull out a massive 20 second gap over the fourth place finisher. A terrific result considering the circumstances!

The weather really kept us on edge all day, but Race two was a wet one. Starting from the front row on grid three, Leon soon pushed his way to the front on lap two. And with some very smooth and consistent riding, this is where he stayed for the rest of the race. Leon now leads the Superstock championship by 26 points. Marvelous!

Formula 600's,

Race one had its drama! Leon flew off the line and was leading as he approached the end of lap one. But, just as Leon came down the 'Elbow' for the first time, the R6 seemed to step out on him to cause a rather 'squeaky bum' moment. We all looked on, holding our breathe, as Leon wrestled with the tank-slapper. Luckily it all seemed to calm down just as quickly as it had started, and he avoided going off the track. Leon then re-grouped and carried on. It was amusing to watch him glance over at us immediately afterwards though, as he flew passed us all watching him from the viewing tower. Anyway, undeterred Leon quickly tucked back in and set about the two riders who had just passed him. And what a race he rode! It wasn't long before the near highside was a distance memory and Leon was looking at picking off the riders in front. With a little bit of patience and a lot of determination Leon soon took the lead and started to pull out a gap. A red flag brought the race to a conclusion a lap or two earlier, but by that point Leon had easily done enough to win the race...an impressive victory!

Race two began very wet, but the sun was out to play by the end of it. Leon took the early initiative and lead well for most of the race, but got passed by a couple of riders towards the end to take his fourth podium of the day. Leon now leads this championship by a massive 36 points too!And get this..., Leon also won the 'Tony Bouncer Trophy' too.

'Stage Fright'

The 'BMC Racing' Yamaha R6 on stage the Sunday morning before the dreaded race, was it 'Stage Fright' !!! still didn't it look good! The Team was up early on the Sunday morning making sure she looked her best after being chosen to show the difference between a 'Superstock 600' and a 'Formula 600' machine. Sorry there is no volume, butI'm working on it!!

ThundersportGB Rd 3 'Pembrey 9th & 10th May'

Leon missed the 2nd Round of ThundersportGB at Cadwell park due to it clashing with the EMRA Round 2 on the 12th April, so he needed to do well at Pembrey and get some points back!!
Well Saturday's Damp Qualifying session went well considering Leon hadn't been there before on the R6 so we had no set-up etc. We had tried to get on the Testing Session on the Friday, but this was fully booked,even though they'd had a few fallers in the morning session!!!

QUALIFYING
Leon qualified in 7th Place with a time of 1:01.62, meaning he would be in 7th place on the Grid for the 'Superpole' Race.

SUPERPOLE RACE
Leon rode a Brilliant race and took 3rd place Trophy with a Lap time of 1:00.70, which was presented to him in the Pembrey Club house in front of a very packed crowd.

SUNDAY
RACE 1
Well, this is were the weekend ended on a low note, Leon was fighting for 3rd Place because 2 riders had jump started and were later penalised with a 10 second penalty, Leon did not realise this and thought he was battling to stay in touch with them when he Highsided at the Hairpin, Leon was a bit battered and bruised but was more concerned with the state of his precious bike!!

This was the first time Leon had come off the Bike since buying it new in 2007 and didn't think the Team could get it repaired in time for the next Race, after being told to go get a shower, the Team got to work, his Dad always says it's not over until those 'Green lights go out'!!. Mike, Craig and his Dad pulled out all the stops to get it rebuilt and ready for the next race, and get it rebuilt they did to everyone's amazement.

RACE 2
Leon got an excellent start and went straight into 2nd place, he didn't let the earlier highside slow him down and seemed to get straight back into the swing of things, but then slowly he was dropping back! we were all wondering on Pit Lane wall what was up!, and on Lap 10 we thought the engine had blown up, we could see smoke / steam billowing from it! I can tell you Leon was gutted, he honestly thought it had blown up!, however after the Team set about investigating, it materialised that something had been thrown up and had gone straight through the radiator, in fact it was a 2" hole in the radiator!! So you can imagine the long trip home was a 'very' long trip home. No points on the Sunday and Leon feeling a bit Battered and Bruised and worrying over the fact that he had 5 days to get it all sorted for his next Race with EMRA on the following Sunday.

This is the Bikesport News website: EMRA Race Review write-up:-

The Buildbase Race saw Jeacock take an early lead which was soon to be passed to Mark littler on lap 2. Littler managed to hold onto the lead until lap 9 where a pass by Jeacock took him back into the lead. The last lap saw the Lazer Kawasaki of Mark Littler take the lead and win by just over half a second to 2nd place Leon Jeacock. 3rd place was taken by Angelo Derosa on his Yamaha R1, 10 seconds ahead of 4th place Richard Green. The win by Littler saw his lead over Jeacock extend to 10 points going into the next round on May 17th.

Yet again, the BMC Yamaha of Leon Jeacock made both the Reve Racing SS 600 races look easy. Finishing both races over 15 seconds. The first race saw Steve Gillings take second place, ahead of Rob Moon, with Richard Wardle finish 2nd in race 17 from Stuart Parsons.

The Co-Ordit Relay 600 didnt look to easy for Jeacock, as Midland WV Novice Jody Lees kept close to his heels throughout both races. Jody took his Midland VW Yamaha R6 to just 1.2 seconds behind Jeacock in the 2nd of the races. Could Jody be Leon’s closest rival on a 600?

However remember the Co-Ordit Relay Championship is in fact a Formula 600 Championship of which Leon is riding a 'Superstock 600' machine (No quickshifter !, No Engine Tuning !, Standard Brakes etc.. etc..etc..!!!), so under those circumstances Leon is doing very well to be even Leading this Championship!!, and also the fact that his Tyre's were shot and should have been put in the Bin! made the consistent 55 second laps unbelievable!!

Leon competed with ThundersportGB last Year and finished in 3rd place in the Junior Powerbike Championship on his AMS-Motorsport sponsored Kawasaki ZXR400, this is a well Organised Club with lots of track time, as well as being Televised on 'Motors TV' and is highly recommended.

This year Leon will be racing in the Superstock 600 Championship, and this is the first race report.

Friday 13th was testing and Qualifying for the 'Superpole' race to be held on the Saturday, there were some top named riders 'Dean Brown', 'John Simpson', Daniel Miles and Richard Wardle. Leon rode well and qualified in 3rd place on the grid, he held back a bit to try and save on tyre wear, after all it get's expensive when you have already bought 3 rears and 1 front tyre 2 weeks earlier!!

However Saturday came and Leon did well in the 'Superpole' race (18 laps), he Finished in 2nd place, 0.511 seconds behind John Simpson, with a fastest lap time of 55.599, and another Trophy in the cabinet ( well there everywhere now!).

Sunday is televised race day, with ThundersportGB, so Leon had to do well and get all his Sponsors on the TV!!, so the pressure was on.

Race 1

Leon got a good start but had company! Dean Brown was right behind him and at one stage got passed Leon, which Leon then claimed back at the hairpin, seconds later we saw Dean rolling down the start / finish straight, his gear change rod had come off!! and that left the door open for Leon to claim a 4.6 second Victory!!! and an Interview with the TV Camera's.

Race 2

Suspension changes were made after Leon said he was having trouble putting the power on out of the corners in the first race so he didn't have any track time to check the set-up, so this was always going to be a hard race.

Leon went into 3rd place from the off and started to drop back, but within 3 laps he was clawing the gap back, it was a brilliant race to watch (as you will see!) and was a photo finish over the line with just 0.3 of a second between all 3 top place riders, unfortunately Leon came 3rd and as quoted by the commentator on the day "it was a photo finish" 1000th of a second between him and 2nd place winner John Simpson with Dean Brown taking the overall win. This was an amazing race and afterwards Leon explained that it took him 3 laps to get used to the Suspension set-up, while the Rear was better it was pushing the front wide and was a fight to control it, with Dave Stewart saying "thought you was entering the new part of the track at one point".

Leon did extremely well and now leads the ThundersportGB Superstock 600 Championship, but this will change as the next meeting clashes with the EMRA Round. Leon still has quite a few rounds to get the points back and this will be his aim for the next meeting with Thundersport GB at Pembrey on the 8th, 9th and 10th May.

Well the 2009 Season finally get's underway for the BMC Racing / LJR Racing Team
Leon had decided to go for the 3 Championships with EMRA as if winning 2 wasn't good enough in 2008!!!

Buildbase Mallory Trophy Championship(open to All)
Formula 600 Championship (although on a Stock 600 motor!)
Superstock 600 Championship

It certainly was going to be a very busy day!! and on top of that BMC Racing had a new rider for the 2009 Season Mark James, and he rode extremely well, we were all very proud of him.

Leon being the EMRA 'Clubman 2008' had also offered to share room in our awning to 2 other riders, James Simpson and Simon Edmundson, so in total there were 6 bikes and about 50 !!! loyal Supporters to feed! it was hectic but we enjoyed every minute of it.

The first Race (race 4) was the 'Buildbase Mallory Trophy' and what a race it was, Leon finished in 5th Place and was the first 600cc machine over the line with a fastest lap time of 56.684, and just 7.9 seconds behind the Winner Mark Littler on his ZX10R, and on the tyres he had used in the morning for Qualifying.

2nd Race (race 7) was the Reve racing 600 Superstock Championship (10 lap race), Leon had qualified earlier in the morning and was on Pole, and after what seemed like a number of incidents the race was re-run over 4 laps, it turned out to be the Leon and Steve Tomes race and it was absolutey brilliant! Leon crossed the line in a very close 1.19 second behind Steve Tomes the Winner.

3rd Race (race 8) which was immediately after Race 7 was the Formula 600 race, Leon had qualified in 5th place and was on the 2nd row of the grid, he got a blinder of a start and immediatly went into 2nd place tusseling with Steve Tomes again!! By Lap 4 he had took the lead and there he stayed, Winning by 1.19 seconds with Steve Tomes in 2nd place, his cycling and fitness regime certainly paid off!! But his tyres were shot! He said after the race " I wanted to Win that race so bad, I didn't even think about the Bike moving all over the place".

Lunch was a welcome break, especially for Craig and Leon's Dad, who were not only looking after Leon's bike, but also helping the rest of the BMC Racing Team, and have to say they looked exhausted, but Leon's racing efforts kept them going!

Race 12 was Leon's 4th race of the day and the Final of the Buildbase Mallory Trophy and after having new rubber put on the rim's, he was up for the Race! and what a Race it was, Leon started on the front row in 4th place, along with Mark Littler, Paul Curran and Pete Bradshaw all 1000cc bikes and people Leon has always looked up to, we were all very proud of him. By the time they got to Gerrard's Leon was siting in front of Pete Bradshaw on the Co-ordit R1 in 3rd place, we couldn't believe our eyes! Leon managed to hold Pete Bradshaw off for 3 laps and then the power of the R1 got the better of him down the Kirkby straight, still what an achievement, Leon finally finished the Race in 4th place 0.4 second behind Pete Bradshaw and again first 600cc machine over the line. Mike Dorey (BMC Racing) who Dyno's and Service's Leon's R6 when he is not racing it, didn't stop grinning!

Race 14, 5th race of the day was the Final Superstock 600 race and again, it was Steve Tomes and Leon again out front, in fact 8 seconds in front. Leon finished the Race in 2nd place 0.820 second behind Steve Tomes. He came in complaining the tyres were shot and the bike was losing grip round Gerrards, so we had a Mum and Dad whip round and new tyres later it was time for the last race of the day (this is going to be an expensive Year!!).

Race 17, 6th and Final race of the day the Formula 600 Championship. Leon got off to a good start and went straight into the lead and stayed there for 4 laps until Steve Tomes (yes that man again!) came past him and took the lead. The race ended with Leon finishing in 2nd place 0.851 of a second behind him. However after checking the new rear tyre we were amazed he even finished the race, bad tyre compound choice and tyre pressures left the tyre totally ripped up, still we'll learn quickly at this rate!!

Leon's Standings after the first EMRA Round are:-

Formula 600 - 1st Place
Superstock 600 - 2nd Place
Buildbase Mallory Trophy - 4th Place

Leon also currently leads the Co-Ordit Relay Championship open to under 24 year olds.

While at the Bikeshow he made a bee line for the Mini moto's, he always did well on them , but somehow he just looks 'to big' for them now, better to stick to the R6 racing. Frazer Rogers (in the striped jumper) certainly looked at ease on them (still he fitted on them better!).

Leon finalised this Year by Winning the 'Formula 400 Championship' on board the BMC Racing Honda RVF 400 and also the 'Superstock 600' Championship on his BMC Racing backed Yamaha R6 at the 'Race of the Year' event at Mallory Park, Leicestershire.

He becomes the first person to Win two E.M.R.A Championship's in the same Year on 2 different Makes and Capacity of Machine.

Leon was snapped up at the beginning of this Year by BMC Racing of Whitchurch, Shropshire and Supplied him with the Honda RVF400, so good was the relationship they offered to help out with Leon's R6, which at the start and half way through this Season was in Standard out of the Shop Road trim, other than plain unpainted Race fairings fitted, after winning the first 'Superstock 600' Race in June by 12.5 seconds, Everyone decided that it needed a makeover. Freddy Dunn painted the Fairings Black, Signs of the Time produced the stickers and Mike (BMC Racing) spent many hours Preparing, Dynoing and the setting up of Leon's suspension which was brought for Leon by 'Paul and Michelle' (Thank you)and the rest is History!!

Mike Dorey has since become not only a good Friend, but also his Manager and Mentor and Leon listens and takes on board every bit of Advice he gives, his knowledge of Bike preperation and Racing is second to non (after all he Races himself, and finished in 3rd place in the Championship.

Leon also took part in the ThundersportGB 'Junior Powerbike' Championship on board his own Kawasaki ZXR400, Sponsored by AMS-Motorsport, which was televised on MotorsTV and Finished the Season in 3rd place after missing 6 Rounds after his engine blew up. Again Mike stepped in and re-built the Engine, which resulted in Leon setting a new lap Record round Mallory park, with a time of 57.374. He was up against the likes of Suzuki SV650's and the Ducati 800 and his position in this Championship shows how Good a Rider Leon really is!! To be able to jump off one bike and onto another is no mean feat, as any Rider will tell you.

Leon has had to miss the last 2 Rounds due to Engine and Gearbox failure on his own Kawasaki ZXR400's, BMC Racing yet again stepped in and offered to Totally rebuild the Engines and Gearbox, Many Thanks to Brian and Mike Dorey. The next Round is at Mallory Park on Sunday 27th July, with Anglesey,Pembrey and Donnington Park left to do. He currently lies in 4th Place in the Championship but hopes to get some points back this weekend.

Leon Jeacock 19 years old, started racing half way through 2006 and formed the name LJR Racing (Leon Jeacock Road Racing).

In 2006 he finished the season with just 1 point in the EMRA (East Midlands Racing Assoc) Formula 400 Championship. He set his Goal that in 2007 he would finish in the top 3.

He achieved that Goal! in 2007 and finished 2nd in the Championship. He then set his next Goal, to 'Win it' !.

Before the Season started he was approached by Mike Dorey the Shropshire based BMC Racing Team Boss, who offered him a Sponsored ride on their Honda RVF400, He couldn't refuse. "I remembered when I first started racing and how I envyed them on there Immaculately turned out Bikes, and now I had been offered the chance to ride one"!, and what a Good move it was to!

He is currently leading the Championship by 13 points, with Mike in 2nd place.

Leon also joined ThundersportGB, riding his own AMS-Motorsport sponsored Kawasaki ZXR400, to help gain more experience of other tracks. He currently lies in 2nd place in the Junior Powerbikes Championship, this series is also Televised on Motors TV, so this would also help him gain more publicity and hopefully help him achieve his ultimate Dream, that British Superbike ride of the Future!
